Ange Postecoglou to Celtic latest news and updates, UEFA Pro-licence, fans protest, Craig Moore, Socceroos

Celtic have reportedly dismissed concerns Ange Postecoglou does not hold sufficient coaching qualifications to become their manager, but reports have emerged suggesting fans are trying to detail his planned appointment.

A report in The Timesraised questions over the former Socceroos boss having the necessary UEFA qualifications. The governing body requires anyone managing a club in the top flight of a European league to hold A and B licences, and to be at least embarking upon the advanced UEFA Pro-licence course.

Ange could “transform Scottish football” | 00:44

While it was suggested Postecoglou is not currently sufficiently qualified the Scottish Sun reported that Celtic are “relaxed” about the issue and still hope to make the appointment official in the coming days.

News of the possible appointment has caused a stir in Glasgow, with many former players and fans concerned that Postecoglou is little-known in Europe and possesses no experience coaching a large European club.

Respected Australian former football reporter Ray Gatt reported on Twitter on Tuesday the club was in “upheaval” with fans planning to protest the move.

Celtic had been in protracted discussions with former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe but those talks to broke down in embarrassing fashion.

Former Socceroo Craig Moore — a close friend of Postecoglou’s — said he expected a deal to be done within days, with the only holdup being around compensation for Postecoglou’s Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos.

He told the Go Football Radio Show: “He’s under contract at his club and I imagine they’re working through that at this moment on time.

“But if he is the man then I’d be pretty confident that this will be concluded within three to five days.

“I’ve had some texts back and forward with him about the scenario that hopefully will play out for Ange in a successful way.

“After the last three months with Celtic and the news about Eddie Howe, everyone just thought it was a given.

“That has obviously fallen through for whatever reason – I’m not privy to that – but after the strong coverage in the last 24 hours it would suggest to me Ange is very close to doing a deal with Celtic.

“I can’t believe Celtic would allow a candidate like this to fall through for the second time in succession.
