KANE TO REFUSE TO RETURN?

Harry Kane is currently a week removed from the Euro 2020 final, in which the England skipper suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Italy, extending his country’s wait for a first major international trophy since 1966.

He has been spotted golfing with fan-favourite former striker Peter Crouch as he enjoys a well-earned rest following a long campaign. But with two weeks remaining before he is due to return to Spurs for pre-season duties, the possibility looms that he will refuse to show up in order to force a move.

The Telegraph last week claimed that Kane’s England teammates believe Kane could refuse to return to the club if Spurs bosses remain unwilling to budge on a transfer.

It comes after incoming coach Nuno Espirito Santo declared in his first public appearance as Spurs manager that Kane would not be leaving, and that he had not talked to the player while he was competing in the Euro.

“Harry is our player, period,” said Santo. “No need to talk about anything else. Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, to rest. When he comes again we will have time to speak. We will have good conversations, but now is the moment for Harry to rest and to prepare for what’s coming. And I’m looking forward to him joining the group and starting working together.

“I didn’t speak to any of the players in the national teams, no one. Because I believe if I was on the other side it would be disrespectful. I think the players in the national team should be focused on the national team. He has a hard job to do, totally committed to the national team, obviously, so this is why I decided not to speak to any of them. I will speak when they arrive. This is the right moment in our own building, face-to-face, sitting down and to prepare our future together.

“Harry’s one of the best footballers in the world and he’s a Tottenham FC player.”

Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer £100 million ($A186m) for Kane’s services.

LIVERPOOL SKIPPER LEAVING?

Jordan Henderson has two seasons remaining on his contract with Liverpool, but the club’s influential captain could be headed for a shock exit. It comes after multiple reports that his contract negotiations have stalled.

The 31-year-old – a legend among the Anfield faithful – is in a much stronger negotiating position now compared to when his contract expires in two years’ time, when he will be 33.

It follows the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to French giants PSG for free after his contract at the Reds expired. Manager Jurgen Klopp was desperate to keep the Dutch midfielder, but was overruled by the club hierarchy who refused to meet Wijnaldum’s demands of a long-term contract. He turns 31 later this year.

Henderson is apparently hoping to avoid a similar situation of negotiations dragging on unsuccessfully – while Liverpool will be desperate not to lose their star man for free. According to multiple reports, it could even see Henderson depart this transfer window.

PSG would be a likely landing spot, which would see the successful midfield pairing of Wijnaldum and Henderson reunite in the French capital.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been linked to the England veteran.

A move appears unconscionable, given Henderson captain the Reds to a drought-breaking Premier League title as well as a Champions League crown. But after Klopp was overruled by Liverpool owners FSG on Wijnaldum’s future, his influence over contract negotiations is once again under a cloud.

ARSENAL LAND ANDERLECHT’S ALBERT

The Gunners have officially sealed the £18 million ($A33.5m) transfer of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht.

The 21 year old has represented Belgium at the Under-21 international level and made 78 appearances for the Belgian club heavyweights.

“It’s a big move because I’ve been playing for Anderlecht for 10 years,” he told Arsenal’s official website.

“It’s a big step but I feel confident because in the football world you have to feel confident about yourself.

“I’m looking forward to playing in this league and I can’t wait to start.

“My lawyer told me about the interest of Arsenal and I didn’t hesitate one second. I said, ‘Excuse me, I will go there’.”

Asked his best position, he added: “I can play as a six, I can play as a box-to-box. People say I’m better in the six position.”

It continues a radical overhaul of Arsenal’s midfield. Matteo Guendouzi has been sent out on loan to Marseille, former captain Granit Xhaka has been reported to be close to a swap to Roma.

The futures of the likes of Joe Willock, Lucas Torreira, Mo Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all remain uncertain.
