A-League, W-League double-header Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory postponed as rain bomb hits NSW, Golden Slipper

Saturday’s A-League and W-League double-header between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory at Jubilee Oval in Sydney’s south-east has been postponed because of rain.

It’s the latest sport to be forced to postpone its event as the rain-bomb hitting the NSW coastline shows no signs of relenting.

“Unfortunately the field has been unable to drain the amount of rain that has fallen at the venue,” APL commissioner Greg O’Rourke said on Saturday afternoon.”

A decision on whether the A-League match between Macarthur FC and Western United on Saturday evening at Campbeltown Stadium and the W-League fixture between Newcastle Jets and Canberra United at Newcastle No.2 Sportsground will go ahead has to be made.

“A decision in regards to the matches at Newcastle No.2 Stadium and Campbelltown Stadium will be made shortly,” O’Rourke added.

It comes after Saturday’s Golden Slipper scheduled meeting at Rosehill was postponed for the first time since 1963.

The BOM says it’s predicting Warragamba Dam, Sydney’s main water source, to overflow this afternoon.

Already 405mm has been reported at Kendal, on the Mid-North Coast.

The BOM is predicting between 60 and 90mm of rain on Saturday with more heavy rain forecast for the coming days.
