Liverpool are reportedly looking at Brighton’s Ben White as a long-term target to strengthen their defence.

Jurgen Klopp secured the signatures of both Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak in January but White still appears to be the preferred solution, having been on Liverpool’s radar for some time.

With a big physical frame and composure under pressure, White shapes as a strong central defensive option and according to Football Insider, Klopp is looking at a £40m ($A71m) bid for him.

White signed a new contract with Brighton last summer, which currently runs until 2024 and the Seagulls are gunning to try hold onto the promising defender.

Liverpool though may be just as desperate to snare him if it means arresting their concerning form slump.

Ex-PL footballer turned pundit Gary Neville said on his podcast that Klopp needs to try something different with his defensive set up, whether that is a new signing or a different system remains to be seen.

“They just look beaten, almost like zombies on the pitch,” he said.

“It’s not for me to advise Liverpool or Klopp what to do but playing a box to protect your centre-backs or maybe going to three at the back.”

“We have seen other teams go to that system. But it looks to me they need a new idea just to give them a spark or it could be a really depressing season for them where they do not qualify for the Champions League, although I still think they will.

“It is a bit more of a worry than it was two or three weeks ago if you are a Liverpool fan.”

STAR’S $139M DEMAND AS TRIO OF PL CLUBS CIRCLE

Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland will reportedly demand a £78million ($A139m) contract at his next club, per Daily Star.

The report claims Haaland is eyeing a £300,000-a-week over a five-year deal, which could seriously restrict the number of clubs in a financial position to continue chasing him.

Haaland has been linked to PL clubs Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea alongside Real Madrid.

He does have a £68million release clause ($A121m) in his contract but it cannot be triggered until the summer of 2022, meaning Dortmund have a big decision to make.

They can either cash in now on the interest and cop the big fee or risk selling him for a lower price by waiting.

Haaland is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the world, having scored 25 goals from 24 games across all competitions.

KANE LINKED TO POCHETTINO REUNION

In other news,The Mirror reports that former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants Harry Kane at PSG but it hinges on the futures of two stars.

Any potential move for the Spurs star will depend on the futures of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, who have been linked to potential exits.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly put a £150million ($A267m) valuation on Kane to detract potential interest from rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.

Kane said early last year that he could leave the English PL club if the team did not move forward in the right direction, claiming he wants to win trophies “sooner than later.”

Tottenham are struggling after their last-start loss to West Ham, sitting ninth on the ladder with Jose Mourinho’s future role at the club in question.

The 27-year old has been a lethal weapon up front with 156 goals from 228 Premier League games.
