F1 2020 News: Portuguese Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel, Favouritism, Charles Leclerc, Ferrari

Published

on

Team boss Mattia Binotto on Monday rejected mounting speculation that Ferrari are favouring Charles Leclerc over Sebastian Vettel by giving him a faster car.

The pair finished six places apart in Sunday’s Portuguese Grand Prix after which Vettel suggested that Leclerc had been driving a faster car.

Leclerc came home fourth and four-time champion Vettel 10th, a result that extended the German’s season-long run of defeats by his team-mate as he seeks a dignified exit in his swan-song season with the Italian team.

F1 news 2020, Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton replacement, George Russell, Sakhir Grand Prix, Bahrain GP

Published

on

Williams driver George Russell will step into Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes this weekend in Bahrain after being chosen to replace the COVID-stricken seven time world champion.

Fresh from winning at the same track last weekend, Hamilton tested positive for the virus on Tuesday (AEDT) causing him to miss the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend.

When this happened at Force India this season with Sergio Perez, former Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg was drafted in to replace him for two races.

However, Mercedes has instead opted for Russell, who has had a long-standing association with the team having joined the junior programme in 2017.

F1 news 2020, Mick Schumacher, Michael update, Haas, driven line up, Sakhir Grand Prix, Bahrain, latest

Published

on

Michael Schumacher’s son, Mick, will race in Formula 1 next season after Haas announced him as part of their new-look driver line-up for 2021.

Schumacher, who is currently leading the F2 championship, has joined Haas on a multi-year deal to join Nikita Mazepin, whose own promotion was announced yesterday.

The 21-year-old is part of Ferrari’s young driver scheme and given Haas’ close ties with the F1 giant, the move had been mooted for a while.

Schumacher will drive the car first during Practice 1 at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next weekend before participating in the post-season tests at the same circuit the following week.

Romain Grosjean says he “saw death coming” in a fiery crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix while describing his escape as a “rebirth” that will mark his life forever.

Grosjean said that he should be leaving hospital on Wednesday after being treated for the burns he sustained to his hands while jumping out of his blazing Haas car following a collision with Daniil Kvyat on the first lap of Sunday’s race.

“I’m leaving the hospital normally tomorrow. I’m getting better and better, obviously a few parts are a bit painful but it’s OK,” Grosjean said in a video posted on Twitter.

“After what happened I guess the pain is not too bad. I’m happy to be alive and talk to you.” Grosjean, 34, was stuck in his car for nearly half a minute before getting out alive, largely thanks to the integrity of his car’s survival cell, his ‘halo’ device.
