Bathurst 1000, V8 Supercars: Scott McLaughlin defence spoiled by safety car at Mount Panorama, Shane van Gisbergen

The reigning Supercars champion was firmly in the hunt to win The Great Race on Sunday with his co-driver, Tim Slade performing well as the 100-lap mark approached.

But an untimely safety car on Lap 98 pulled the rug from beneath the pair and left McLaughlin with too much to do in the race’s closing stages.

MotoGP: Marc Marquez third surgery on arm, news, update, Honda, 2021 season, dates,

Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez, who has not raced since fracturing his arm at the start of the 2020 season, underwent another operation on his right arm on Thursday.

“Marc Marquez has undergone a new operation on his right arm as a result of the slow healing of the humerus bone,” said his Honda team.

They said the operation was conducted in a hospital in Madrid, took eight hours and involved “the removal of the previous plate and the placement of a new plate” and a bone graft from his hip.

F1 2020: Daniel Ricciardo, Romain Grosjean crash, F1 meeting

Daniel Ricciardo’s stance hasn’t changed.

The Australian Renault driver, who lashed the F1 for its decision to show endless replays of Romain Grosjean’s horror crash, will now meet with the organisation for talks over how the situation was handled.

“There was the offer [to talk] and I will take that offer up today,” said Ricciardo, via motorsport.com.

“Obviously after the race I was still, let’s say, not only a bit heated but then had to dissect my own race, and I didn’t feel it was the right time.

“So I will hear them out today and obviously hear the reasons and go from there. So I’m happy to hear. I’m happy to be educated.”

Supercars 2021 Championship calendar, schedule: All races, locations, Mount Panorama

Supercars has released the 2021 calendar with a return to a number of key locations after a COVID-affected year.

Events will be spread across six states and the Northern Territory as well as New Zealand after COVID-19 restrictions forced changes to the 2020 schedule.

Meanwhile, the calendar itself begins at the spiritual home of Australian motor racing – Mount Panorama.
