‘What a s**t day’: Veteran’s hilarious interview after birthday nightmare
Chelsea have a mountain to climb if they are to progress, needing to turn around a three-goal deficit away from home.
“I believe we can, otherwise I shouldn’t be here, more importantly the players have to believe,” Lampard said Friday when asked if his team can pull off a near-miracle in Munich on Saturday.
Chelsea were routed at Stamford Bridge in February’s first-leg of the last 16 tie as Serge Gnabry scored twice and Robert Lewandowski added a late third for Bayern.
To add to the uphill task in the return leg at Munich’s Allianz Arena, the quartet of Christian Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Pedro and Willian are all out injured.
Bayern Munich is one of only two teams remaining in the competition who have lifted the Champions League – with the other being Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have not been beaten at home in the Champions League in seven years, and are targeting a spot in the quarterfinals for a 13th straight year.
Their rivals Napoli have never reached the quarterfinals – not even when Diego Maradona was featuring for the southern Italians.
Barcelona finished second in La Liga while Napoli were seventh in Serie A, but having secured a Europa League spot thanks to their Italian Cup victory.
Napoli coach and legendary ex-player Gennaro Gattuso said: “We are ready to face Barcelona. We have our style, we are prepared. But they have one player named Messi who can leave ten players behind.”
