Racing Point’s Sergio Perez has tested positive for coronavirus and will not take part in this weekend’s British GP.

The Mexican was self-isolating and absent from the Silverstone paddock on Thursday after an ‘inconclusive’ result led to a retest.

That test has now returned a positive result.

Perez is the first driver and front-line member of an F1 team to test positive for COVID-19 since the delayed season began earlier this month.

F1 news 2020, 70th anniversary Grand Prix, British GP, qualifying results, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg

Daniel Ricciardo once again put in another strong showing at Silverstone as he qualified in P5 for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix this weekend.

The Australian has shown good pace all weekend and only just missed out on the second row of the grid, despite putting in his time on intermediate tires, rather than the softs that the majority of the pack were on.

That means he will start on mediums compared to the others, meaning theoretically he should be able to go for longer than his rivals without pitting.

“That’s a cracking time from Ricciardo,” Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle said after the lap that set his qualifying time.

Ricciardo himself was also delighted, having finished fifth last week, his joint-best ever finish in a Renault.

Formula One, 70th Anniversary Grand Prix Qualifying, 11pm AEST —

Daniel Ricciardo is hoping to replicate his best day in a Renault this season after finishing Friday’s second practice session in a stunning third.

While the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas comfortably topped the timesheets in both practice sessions, Ricciardo stunned the paddock with a scorching lap to pip Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to third on the timesheets.

It left the Aussie crowing about ‘genuine’ pace – and targeting a first podium since Monaco 2018.

F1 2020, British Grand Prix, Friday practice: Daniel Ricciardo eyes podium, Lewis Hamilton fastest at Silverstone

Daniel Ricciardo is eyeing his first podium finish in more than two years after showing “genuine” pace during practice for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Hamilton bounced back to top the times ahead of Valtteri Bottas on Friday but it was Ricciardo that was making waves with a scorching lap narrowly quicker than former Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen.

Ricciardo — who hasn’t stood on an F1 podium since winning the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix — now sees a third-placed finish as a realistic possibility for the first time in a Renault.
