Whether it’s a sideways step, the start of something special or the bitter end for one of F1’s greatest ever drivers, Sebastian Vettel is free.

Maybe that’s all he ever needed to be.

Vettel will leave Scuderia Ferrari at the end of 2020 to join another team, go into retirement, or otherwise.

F1 2020, Austrian Grand Prix: Red Bull to challenge Mercedes with Honda upgrade, Daniel Ricciardo

Published

on

Mercedes is set to face its strongest challenge of the hybrid era this year as Red Bull hopes to quietly mount a genuine contender for the 2020 F1 title.

The season will finally start this weekend with the first of two races in Austria — and it’s the Silver Arrows that could well be on the back foot early.

Not only does Red Bull reign supreme at its home track with wins in 2018 and 2019, but it will also roll out an upgraded Honda power unit as it hopes to capitalise on a revamped schedule that plays into its hands.

F1 2020: Daniel Ricciardo reacts to ‘insane’ F1 proposal

Published

Daniel Ricciardo says it would be “insane” to race around Mugello if a second grand prix in Italy is added to this year’s revised F1 calendar.

There are suggestions a race at the iconic Ferrari-owned circuit could take place the week after the traditional Italian Grand Prix at Monza, and the Australian driver is fully supportive of the idea.

The F1 season was delayed because of coronavirus and is now scheduled to start this weekend in Austria as drivers prepare for eight European races in 10 weeks — a figure that could jump to nine in 11 weeks if Mugello, in Tuscany, is added.

“That was a circuit (Mugello) I raced back in 2007 for the first time, and it was my favourite circuit that season,” Ricciardo said, per motorsport.com.

F1 2020: Ferrari undertake ‘significant change of direction’ this year

Published

on

Ferrari have revealed their 2020 car will not feature any updates compared to the one run at February testing for F1’s return at the Austrian GP, with the team instead working on a “significant change of direction” in development.

Confirming their first round of updates will instead appear at the season’s third round — in Hungary in two weeks’ time — Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto said their disappointing form in winter testing had led to a rethink with the SF1000.

“This weekend the car will run in the same configuration used towards the end of the Barcelona tests,” said Binotto.

“This doesn’t mean we have been twiddling our thumbs in the very limited time of just five-and-a-half weeks in which we were able to work on the cars, because of the stringent procedures involved in working around the pandemic as well as the total shutdown of activities required by the FIA in agreement with the teams.
