Jack Miller is keen not to “put some kilos on where you don’t want to” in an extended MotoGP off-season due to the ongoing COVID-19-induced layoff.

The 2020 season start has been delayed to at least May due to the coronavirus outbreak, with Qatar cancelled and three further races – Thailand, the Americas and Argentina – postponed.

Miller left his base in Andorra has returned home to Australia with his parents in Townsville. There, the 25-year-old has continued his training program as he looks to stay fit and avoid putting on weight ahead of the 2020 season start, whenever that may be.

Kelly Racing Supercars driver Andre Heimgartner will get the chance to take on Formula 1 aces and global stars in an F1 Eseries race.

Heimgartner, who will feature alongside his 24 championship rivals in the sport’s BP Supercars All Stars Eseries from next week, has been handpicked to join the virtual F1 grid.

This weekend’s race, which will be staged at Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, is an effective replacement for what would have been the inaugural Vietnam Grand Prix. The Hanoi race is one of six races postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with Australia and Monaco cancelled.

Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin has praised the motorsport community in its response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic which has forced a halt to the 2020 season.

McLaughlin opened his title defence with a win on the streets of Adelaide in February, but may not be able to resume his battle with his rivals on track until at least June with three events postponed.

In response to the layoff, Supercars has organised an online All Stars Eseries, which will feature all 25 championship drivers, with 18 tracks to host 10 events in 10 weeks.

Formula 1 news: F1 2020, F1 news, McLaren F1 coronavirus pay cuts

McLaren became the first Formula 1 team to furlough staff because of the coronavirus on Wednesday, with drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz joining senior management in taking a pay cut.

The sportscar maker said in a statement the temporary three-month wage reduction was part of wider cost-cutting measures due to the impact of the pandemic on its business.

“These measures are focused on protecting jobs in the short-term to ensure our employees return to full-time work as the economy recovers,” McLaren added.
