F1 2020, Lewis Hamilton news, F1 news, coronavirus sport updates

Published

on

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he has been isolating since the cancelled Australian Grand Prix but has “zero symptoms” of coronavirus despite coming into contact with two celebrities who later tested positive for the virus.

Before heading to Melbourne for what should have been the 2020 season-opener, the six-time F1 world champion was at a charity event in London along with actor Idris Elba and Sophie Trudeau (the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau) – who have both since confirmed they had contracted coronavirus.

But Hamilton says he is “feeling healthy” and is symptom-free, although hasn’t tested for the virus since the March 4 meet as “people need it more than I do”.

Holden’s commitment to the Supercars championship will formally end at the completion of the 2020 season.

The manufacturer has revised its agreement with Triple Eight Race Engineering to provide factory support for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team after the news earlier this year that the brand would be retired by parent company General Motors.

While Holden’s contract with Triple Eight originally ran until the end of the 2021 campaign, an agreement has been reached to terminate the contract a year early.

F1 2020, Mercedes: Reverse grid unlikely when season starts in Austria

Published

on

A proposal to introduce reverse-grid races when Formula 1 returns next month is unlikely to be accepted due to opposition from Mercedes – with Red Bull boss Christian Horner telling Sky Sports that Toto Wolff believes it “would interfere with Lewis Hamilton’s championship campaign”.

There has been a fresh push for an experimental sprint race – where the leader of the championship would start at the back – to replace qualifying and determine Sunday’s grid order at tracks which are due to host two races this year to create more unpredictability for the second event.

Austria and Silverstone are both set for back-to-back F1 weekends this summer, with Spielberg kicking off the campaign in early July.

F1 2020: Daniel Ricciardo says George Floyd death is a disgrace after Lewis Hamilton post

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo has added his voice to the Black Lives Matter movement, branding the death of George Floyd as a “disgrace”.

The Australian F1 driver took to Instagram on Monday, speaking out against racism and calling for society to improve.

His message came soon after Lewis Hamilton — F1’s only black driver — slammed his colleagues for a mute response over Floyd, who died at the hands of a white police officer who pressed his knee on his neck.
