2020 Dakar Rally results: Toby Price Dakar, bikes, Ricky Brabec, Paulo Goncalves

Published

on

He may not have defended his Dakar Rally title, but third in a trying 2020 event was a reward nonetheless for Toby Price after “some things were out of my control”.

Price began the 2020 rally with a win in the opening stage, but a number of setbacks – none greater than the death of Paulo Goncalves – saw the Australian ultimately lose his crown to American Honda rider Ricky Brabec.

Regardless, an incredible fifth Dakar podium in six starts proved Price’s ability to persevere in the gruelling event, which was held in Saudi Arabia for the first time.

Supercars 2020: Mark Skaife, Holden retirement announcement

Published

on

Mark Skaife has opened up on the shock announcement of the Holden brand’s retirement, with the Supercars legend admitting discussing his “sadness” over the news.

General Motors dropped a bombshell on the motoring industry on Monday by announcing they were “retiring” the iconic Australian brand by 2021 in the wake of falling domestic sales for Holden vehicles.

Critically, the announcement has plunged Holden’s Supercars future in doubt, despite a contract extension between the brand and the Red Bull Holden Racing Team being announced in July last year.

Denny Hamlin won his second straight Daytona 500 and third overall, beating Ryan Blaney in an overtime photo finish marred by a terrifying crash that sent Ryan Newman to hospital.

Newman had surged into the lead on the final lap when Blaney’s bumper caught the back of his Ford and sent Newman hard right into the wall.

His car flipped, rolled, was hit on the driver’s side by another car, and finally skidded across the finish line engulfed in flames.

It took several minutes for his car to be rolled back onto its wheels. He was placed in a waiting ambulance and taken directly to a hospital. Drivers were stricken with concern, including a rattled Corey LaJoie, the driver who hit Newman’s car as it was flipping.

on

Red Bull Holden Racing Team owner Roland Dane has admitted the timing of Holden’s axing came as a “surprise” ahead of this weekend’s Supercars season-opener in Adelaide.

Australian motoring was rocked on Monday after it was announced General Motors would retire the iconic Holden brand from Australia and New Zealand at the end of the 2020.

The announcement immediately raised questions over Holden’s future in Supercars, where Dane’s Triple Eight Race Engineering squad has a factory contract through to 2021.
