Dakar Rally 2020: Stage 10; Fernando Alonso crash; Carlos Sainz

Published

on

Spanish veteran Carlos Sainz stretched his lead atop the overall Dakar Rally standings by winning the 10th stage through the dunes of Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter on Wednesday.

The 57-year-old Mini driver clocked 2hr 03min 43sec on a stage shortened by high winds to a 233km special between Haradh and Shubaytah, finishing ahead of Poland’s Jakub Przygonski (mini) and South African Giniel de Villier (Toyota).

Sainz took full advantage of navigational problems by closest rivals Nasser Al-Attiyah, the defending champion, and France’s ‘Mr. Dakar’, Stephane Peterhansel.

F1 news, Michael Schumacher update: Ex-Ferrari boss Jean Todt statement

Published

on

Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt has revealed he visited Michael Schumacher last week and says the seven-time F1 champion is fighting to overcome the devastating injuries he suffered in a skiing accident in 2013.

Todt, who oversaw five of Schumacher’s drivers championships at Ferrari, is among just a handful of people who have access to the 51-year-old at his Lake Geneva home.

Schumacher’s condition has been a closely-guarded secret as his family remains determined to respect his privacy.

But Todt, 74, offered positive news after his visit. “I saw Michael last week. He is fighting,” Todt told the PA news agency.

“My God, we know he had a terrible and unfortunate skiing accident which has caused him a lot of problems. But he has an amazing wife next to him, he has his kids, his nurses, and we can only wish him the best and to wish the family the best, too.”

F1 2020: Sebastian Vettel signs for Aston Martin, Racing Point, Ferrari contract, Mugello Grand Prix

Published

on

F1’s worst kept secret has been confirmed: Sebastian Vettel has signed for Aston Martin for 2021 and beyond.

The four-time world champion’s signing has been rumoured ever since Ferrari decided before the 2020 season that it will not extend his contract beyond this year.

Sergio Perez then revealed on Wednesday that Racing Point — which will become Aston Martin Racing from next year — would not renew his contract either after seven years of service.

That opened the door to Vettel, who was once staring into the F1 abyss but will now continue his F1 career at a fifth team following stints at Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull and Ferrari.
