Barcelona, news: Ernesto Valverde sacked, Xavi, Quique Setien, football, La Liga

Published

on

Ernesto Valverde has been sacked by Barcelona after two-and-a-half years at the Nou Camp.

Valverde is the first manager to be sacked by Barcelona mid-season since Louis van Gaal was dismissed in January 2003.

Barcelona are currently ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga on goal difference and through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, but they lost 3-2 to Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday.

Valverde, previously at Athletic Bilbao and Valencia, replaced Luis Enrique in 2017 and won back-to-back league titles during his time in charge.

Serie A, Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo bought iMacs for Juventus team, news,

Published

Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo was made to buy the entire Juventus squad iMacs after his 2018 red card against Valencia.

On his Champions League debut for the Old Lady, the Portuguese superstar was reduced to tears after being red carded for pulling the hair of opposition defender Jeison Murillo.

Juventus went on to win 2-0 anyway, but boss Massimiliano Allegri’s disciplinary rules at the club stated that following a misdemeanour, the perpetrator must buy all of his teammates a gift as an apology.

Despite superstar status, CR7 was not above this rule, although he tried to wriggle out of it.
