Winning the PIRTEK Enduro Cup made up for a lean first half of the season for Jamie Whincup, who combined with Craig Lowndes to execute one of the most clinical endurance campaigns in history following their Sandown 500 win.

Across the three events at Bathurst, Surfers Paradise and Sandown, the #888 duo finished no lower than fourth in all races, including the two Sandown sprints.

From a maximum of 950 points across the three events, Whincup and Lowndes tallied 878, which marks the highest ever total recorded by a combination in Enduro Cup history.

Pierre Gasly, F1 2019, Brazilian F1 GP, Gasly podium, Toro Rosso

Published

Few on the grid have suffered a more frustrating year than Pierre Gasly, who broke through for a maiden podium at Interlagos in a moment he described “the best day of my life”.

Gasly was dumped by the senior Red Bull team during the summer break after toiling through 11 races in which he was outclassed by the established Max Verstappen. He also suffered personal heartache when he lost friend Anthoine Hubert in a Formula 2 crash at Spa in August.

Gasly’s remarkable charge to second in Brazil was testament to his determination, and his screams over team radio when he crossed the line justified how much the moment meant to him.

Carlos Sainz’s first F1 podium finish has officially been confirmed at the Brazilian GP – ending McLaren’s five-year wait for a return to the top three.

More than two hours after the conclusion to an epic Brazilian GP, and over an hour after Lewis Hamilton was demoted from what was third place after taking to the podium, Sainz was formally confirmed in third himself after being cleared in a post-race investigation over yellow flags.

While the Spaniard missed out on the official podium ceremony, he and his jubilant McLaren team did make the Interlagos rostrum where Sainz was presented with the third-place trophy earlier given to Hamilton.

Johann Zarco admitted his shock in the hideous incident which marred the MotoGP season finale in Valencia, but was confident he hadn’t broken any bones.

The two-time Moto2 champion’s three-race stint with LCR Honda came to an ugly end after he was wiped out by Iker Lecuona’s bike while walking away from his own accident.

Zarco fell from 11th at Turn 6 on Lap 14 of the 27-lap race, just seconds after ninth-placed Danilo Petrucci fell at the same corner.
