Valentino Rossi retirement, MotoGP 2019, Australian Grand Prix, Phillip Island MotoGP

Published

on

Valentino Rossi’s former long-time crew chief Jeremy Burgess believes the nine-time world champion has “perhaps hung around a little bit too long” in MotoGP.

Ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island — which will be his 400th Grand Prix start — Rossi is a distant seventh in the standings, with Petronas Yamaha SRT rookie Fabio Quartararo now 18 points ahead in sixth.

Rossi claimed podiums in two of the first three races this season, but has since failed to finish better than fourth in the following 13 races.

F1 2020, Austrian Grand Prix: McLaren qualifying result good news for Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo may be cursing his luck after the F1 season’s first qualifying session on Saturday, but he still has more than one reason to smile.

The Renault driver qualified for the Austrian Grand Prix in 10th — a disappointing result given he could have went faster without yellow flags forcing him to slow on his flying lap.

But way up ahead in fourth position was a surprise result that Ricciardo will no doubt secretly enjoy.

F1 2020, Austrian Grand Prix, qualifying, grid, times, result: Lewis Hamilton cleared by FIA, Daniel Ricciardo makes Q3

Published

on

Lewis Hamilton’s second place on the Austrian GP grid stands after he was cleared in a post-qualifying investigation over yellow flags, while Daniel Ricciardo was left to lament his own incident with waved yellows.

Six-time champion Hamilton was summoned to the stewards on two counts on Saturday night – allegedly failing to slow for yellow flags on his final lap after polesitter Valtteri Bottas went off the track, and also running wide off the circuit earlier in Q3 at Turn 10.

It was the alleged yellow-flag infringement that could have caused Hamilton problems in terms of a grid penalty if he was found guilty, but stewards have ruled no further action was required.
