Supercars news 2019: Scott Pye, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Supercars silly season

Published

on

While the 2019 season hasn’t gone to plan for Walkinshaw Andretti United, Scott Pye is optimistic the Holden squad can rebound for the enduros.

After finishing 2018 a career-best seventh, Pye has fallen to 16th after nine events this season and has claimed just six top-10 finishes from 20 starts.

Proving car speed has been hard to come by for WAU, teammate James Courtney hasn’t fared much better with seven top-10 finishes.

F1 news 2019, Haas F1 drivers, Romain Grosjean, Kevin Magnussen, F1 2020

Published

on

Haas have confirmed that they are retaining both Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean for F1 2020, ending speculation about their driver line-up.

The decision, which Haas boss Guenther Steiner admits was made in the interest of “experience” and “continuity”, means Magnussen and Grosjean will enter a fourth season as teammates despite a troubled 2019 season.

It also rules out a potential landing spot for many drivers, including Nico Hulkenberg who was targeting the seat after being axed by Renault.

Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris set a dangerous precedent earlier in the season at the British Grand Prix drivers press conference, so it was only natural to pair them up again.

Renault driver Ricciardo derailed the Silverstone press conference in July after bringing McLaren teenage rookie Norris to tears over a very personal question.

At Singapore on Thursday, Norris came prepared to cop the Australian’s probing humour, but couldn’t even get past his first question from the floor.

F1 news 2019, Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari F1, Vettel Leclerc

Published

on

Sebastian Vettel insists he is not in the worst period of his Formula 1 career — but admits his recent results are “not great” and he is keen to turn around his form.

Vettel arrives in Singapore for a race he has won four times — a record he shares with Lewis Hamilton — with fresh questions around his competitiveness after back-to-back wins for Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.

The contrast between the pair a fortnight ago at Monza, Ferrari’s home event, was particularly stark. Leclerc won the race despite immense pressure from the Mercedes drivers and Vettel finished 13th, after an early spin and subsequent penalty. The error was the latest in a series of mistakes from the four-time world champion over the past two seasons.
