F1 2019: Sebastian Vettel penalty, Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo, news

It was a poor decision from the stewards to hand an in-race five-second penalty to Sebastian Vettel in Montreal.

I don’t believe a penalty was due, but even so they could have investigated it after the race with the benefit of more time and data, and after speaking with both drivers.

I am not going to beat up on the stewards, they have the regulations, knowledge, footage, data, process and precedents to follow. You have to have rules and a referee otherwise you have anarchy and the whole thing would fall over.

Holden has rocked the automotive industry after announcing it will retire the Commodore in 2020.

Both the ZB Commodore and BK Astra will be withdrawn from the market next year as Holden looks to narrow its portfolio exclusively on SUVs and light commercial vehicles, said Holden Interim Chairman and Managing Director Kristian Aquilina.

Commodores will continue to be sold until the existing stocks are depleted.

“Holden is taking this decisive action to ensure a sharp focus on the largest and most buoyant market segments,” said Aquilina.

“So far this year SUVs and Utes have increased to 76 percent of Holden sales, a trend we only see continuing.”

Six times world champion Lewis Hamilton laid hands on the Formula One winners’ trophy as his late team boss Niki Lauda was voted personality of the year at the governing FIA’s awards gala.

Austrian Lauda, a triple world champion and one of the all-time greats as well as the Mercedes team’s non-executive chairman, died in May aged 70 after a lung transplant the previous August.

The award was the result of a vote by permanently accredited media from the International Automobile Federation’s various championships. There was also recognition of late race director Charlie Whiting, who died before the season-opening race in Australia, and French F2 driver Anthoine Hubert, who died at the Belgian Grand Prix weekend in July.

Six times Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and MotoGP great Valentino Rossi are preparing for a ride swap in Spain on Monday, with the Briton “super excited” at the prospect.

Hamilton, who collected his F1 champion’s trophy at an FIA gala in Paris on Friday, will head to Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit for the closed event organised by a mutual sponsor.

“I think me and @LewisHamilton will have some fun soon,” Rossi teased on his Instagram feed next to a picture of him sitting in a Mercedes F1 car.
