F1 news: Daniel Ricciardo, Renault; two major problems plaguing the Australian

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo’s seventh place in China – best of the rest behind the top three teams – represented progress following his initial difficulties adapting to the RS19 after years at Red Bull.

Particularly so, given that he had managed to narrowly out-qualify teammate Nico Hulkenberg in a straight contest for the first time.

In the lead up to the China weekend, Ricciardo had been giving some insight into his initial difficulties with the car. The biggest problem was how it would not allow him to brake as aggressively as he is used to on the approach to corners.

A secondary problem was that its behaviour was more disrupted by driving it heavily over kerbs, requiring him to adapt his lines in some cases.

Australian 2018 Indy 500 champion Will Power has slammed race officials for “ruining his day” as he attempted to defend his title in Indianapolis.

The Penske driver finished fifth on a difficult afternoon after an apparently flawed pit stop saw him sent to the back of the field as punishment.

Power was running second at the time of the incident when he slid into the pits for a tyre change only for his rear wheel to appear to bump on of his crew members, thus triggering the penalty.

F1 news, Monaco Grand Prix 2019: Max Verstappen, Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas, crash, latest

Published

on

Max Verstappen says the penalty which cost him a podium in the Monaco GP energised him in his engrossing battle with Lewis Hamilton.

Although the Dutchman ran nose-to-tail with Hamilton for almost a quarter of the race, crossing the line in second place, he was classified fourth thanks to an earlier five-second penalty imposed for an unsafe release from his pit stop.

Released into the path of Valtteri Bottas, who had run second before the stops, Verstappen made contact with the Mercedes, with stewards ruling that the Red Bull “had the opportunity to avoid the contact contributing to the unsafe release”.

F1 news, Monaco Grand Prix 2019: Sergio Perez, marshals, crash, hit, nearly killed them, video, watch

Published

on

Racing Point driver Sergio Perez was left shaken after an on-track incident with two marshals saw him narrowly miss hitting them as he left the pit lane at the Monaco Grand Prix.

It was missed during the live race coverage but footage from the Mexican’s on-board camera showed just how quick his reactions needed to be to avoid a collision which would surely have killed a marshal.

The incident occurred as the marshals attempted to clear the debris off the track after a collision between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg, which prompted a number of cars to return to the pits for new tyres under the safety car.
